Case Study - KLC School of Design

Inspired Visual gives KLC School of Design a revamp

Inspired Visual was asked to design, create and install new school wall art for the KLC School of Design in Fulham, London.

The challenge

To create and implement a graphical narrative describing KLC’s course offering.

KLC already had school branding guidelines in place, but we were asked to evolve them to create something new and fresh while maintaining the brand feel. Initial school branding concepts were created for the school reception designs, common spaces wall art and corridors. The main focus was redesigning their 30m-long main school corridor that the school utilises as a promotional gallery to display course information, student work and motivational quotes for students.

The gallery is also a crucial tool in the interview process and describes the key stages in each course using examples of student work. The gallery is also a general showcase of the KLC brand to garner excitement and industry interest about the courses, and position KLC School of Design as a forward-thinking, innovative design school that nurtures and encourages new talent through a unique vocational and academic blend.

The solution

Interchangeable fabric and magnetic display systems.

The corridor is the main thoroughfare connecting the main entrance, reception and common areas. It also connects classrooms and studios for different courses.

Using an axonometric grid system and different colours we created a scheme for each course. The design idea was mirrored on each side of the corridor and gave each classroom, studio and course a clear identity.

The designs for these were each printed on super-wide 6m x 3m wallpaper, all in one piece with no joins. The super-wide material is hard-wearing and durable so it is well-suited to a busy yet narrow school corridor.

Execution

Made to measure super-wide graphics with no joins.

Another key part of the brief was to create elements of the school display ideas that could be changed quickly and easily without the need for specialist installers.

We used tension fabric systems that were overlaid on to the school wall graphics. These were utilised to display course information and project work.

These systems enabled specific information to be changed quickly and cost-efficiently as new projects were completed or old ones became outdated.

Results

Seamless school wall graphics installed out of hours, on time and on budget.

Another key part of the brief was to create elements of the wall displays that could be changed quickly and easily without the need for specialist installers.

We used tension fabric systems that were overlaid on to the graphic walls. These were utilised to display course information and project work. These systems enabled specific information to be changed quickly and cost-efficiently as new projects were completed or old ones became dated.

Student biographies, profiles and project case studies were all produced on magnetic wall media, again allowing the graphics to be updated quickly and cost-effectively, keeping the content fresh and up to date with the minimum of fuss.

KLC School of Design Testimonial

“The new gallery has transformed the narrow corridor that connects all the studio classrooms into the vibrant heart of the school. It works brilliantly”
