Case Study - Prenton High School

Inspired Visual was asked to inspire pupils and create a positive learning environment

The clever use of school wall signage is an attractive, cost-effective and low maintenance way to transform bland corridors and uninspiring areas into informative, educational and aspirational spaces. Here we take a closer look at how the school wall art specialists from Inspired Visual helped one high school brighten up the fabric of its school buildings.

The challenge

To create a positive learning environment.

Prenton High School for Girls is an all-ability, all-girls school serving local communities in the Wirral. The school prides itself on encouraging and inspiring pupils to be the very best that they can be. Key to this is the promotion of Prenton’s core values of trust, respect, integrity, kindness and endeavour, which underpin everything the school does. The school was keen to improve the look and feel of its buildings, and in particular, ensure the school’s values were prominent and highlighted to pupils, staff, visitors and governors.

The solution

Strategies for building a productive and positive learning environment.

Deputy Headteacher Geraldine Fraser contacted Matthew Newlove, from Inspired Visual, after learning about the company via its website. Matthew visited the school to get a clearer idea of the type and style of improvements required, see first-hand which areas would lend themselves to the range of wall art solutions available and identify the best locations and vistas for the greatest impact.

Following the site visit, Matthew and his designers prepared and costed a proposal to transform the school’s ideas into reality. The team offered advice on suitable themes and designs, specifically tailored to the school’s layout, budget and bespoke branding. The proposal suggested a two-phase improvement approach:

Phase 1

Phase 2

  • Create aspirational stairwell wall art including a display to promote key life attributes for students to develop: leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative and communication.
  • Brighten up the science laboratories with a floor-to-ceiling ‘Periodic Table of the Elements’ wall graphic and a ‘History of the Atom’ information board
  • Develop a series of interactive educational graphics of the human body’s muscular system for use in the sports hall
  • Develop new branding – ‘The Beacon Guiding you to Success’ – for the special educational needs area and create a striking new ‘Wonder Wall’ to celebrate excellence, promote high-quality work and celebrate the achievement of pupils with additional needs

Execution

Execution made easy.

Designs and locations were confirmed, and it was agreed that the first phase of improvements would be carried out during the summer holidays in 2019, principally to minimise disruption to pupils, staff and visitors. Matthew liaised with Geraldine to arrange for an installation team to carry out the work at a pre-agreed time and date. The second phase of improvements took place a few months later in November.

A range of wall art solutions was installed in the school, from interchangeable graphic display frames to interactive magnetic wall art and one-piece self-adhesive vinyl graphics which take on the exact shape of corridors and brickwork.

Results

Fantastic school wall graphics installed out of hours, on time and within the client’s budget.

Prenton High School Testimonial

“The Inspired Visual team is clearly highly experienced working in a school environment, which made the project so much easier. They were a delight to work with, kept us up to date on progress, responded to questions promptly and even worked throughout the weekend to minimise disruption to pupils, staff and visitors. The installation was completed on time and on budget and has helped to create an inspiring and welcoming environment for the whole school community.

The work has been so well received by pupils, staff, parents, visitors and governors; we had a wonderful start to the school year. We have plans for the next stage of work and look forward to working with Matthew and his fantastic team.
